Dubai: Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are holding a two-day workshop on nuclear medicine at Dubai Hospital in cooperation with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Award for Medical Science.

The workshop, which was inaugurated by Dr Ahmad Ebrahim Saif Kalban, CEO of the Hospitals Services Sector at DHA, saw the experts review national guidelines for cancer screening through utilising imaging procedures.

Experts from IAEA Prof V. Sobhan, consultant in Nuclear Medicine and head of the Nuclear Medicine Department, Royal Liverpool University Hospital, UK, and professor at Salford University and Liverpool University; and Prof S. Mirzaei, physician for Nuclear Medicine and physician for General Medicine from Vienna, Austria, and professor at Vienna University, also spoke about the latest techniques in nuclear medicine, while multiple local speakers also contributed in educational and training activities.

Dr Jameela Al Suwaidi, consultant in radiation at the Department of Medical Education in DHA, said the workshops include training on the use of the most sophisticated techniques in nuclear medicine and molecular imaging for diagnosis and treatment of cancers.

She added that the workshop opens horizons for exchange of new information related to progress of nuclear medicine in the oncology field.

The course, which is being held at Dubai Hospital, includes participants from Jordan, Iraq, the UAE, Oman, Yemen, Lebanon and Syria.
