Dubai: Humanity’s problems will persist until we accept the purpose of life is to worship the One God, the Dubai Ramadan Forum heard on Sunday night.

In a late night address, which spilt into the early hours of Monday morning, Indian Islamic preacher Meraj Rabbani said everything in the universe, from the smallest atom to the biggest galaxy, has a purpose.

Rabbani added that whatever man does, be it a mundane action or a life-changing decision, he does it for a purpose. His point was that peace, harmony and happiness is only possible when the object meets the purpose it was created for.

“So what is the purpose of life? Why did Allah [God] create man? It says in the Quran that He created us to worship him alone,” Rabbani said.

The lecture, the only one delivered in Urdu for the current 14th edition of the forum, was held at Dubai World Trade Centre’s Zabeel Hall.

One of the most popular Islamic preachers in the Indian subcontinent, Rabbani is a member of the Shura of Darul Ifta Wal Irshad in Bengaluru, India.

“But why do we have to worship? It’s because true worship lifts up the person above evils, material greed, and does away with terrorism,” he added.

Rabbani said thinking that the only purpose in life is to make money and amass riches has not brought people happiness.

“I would like to tell Muslims and non-Muslims alike, know your purpose. Worship must be done in the way it was intended to be done by the Law Giver.”

The forum is organised by Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing and held under the patronage of Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation.

Monday’s lecture was part of a series of Arabic and non-Arabic lectures hosted at Zabeel Hall from June 24-July 5 as part of the forum. On July 5, the hugely popular Islamic speaker Dr Zakir Naik from India is scheduled to deliver his talk in English.
