Dubai: Handwritten affidavits are no longer accepted for attestation at IVS Global Services, the company selected by the Indian Consulate in Dubai to handle its attestation services, a service provider said.

Only typed affidavits will be accepted at the IVS. All affidavit forms are available for free on the IVS website, www.ivsglobalattestation.com.

Affidavits are signed pledges or declarations made by the applicant to support a variety of applications, such as a promise to financially support a person sponsored by the applicant in the UAE, a no-objection certificate from the UAE-based parent to enable their minor child to apply for a new passport in India, and other procedures.

An IVS official told Gulf News that handwritten affidavits were vulnerable to tampering, spelling mistakes and legibility problems.

“In a few cases, we had noticed that a few lines had been added after the attestation stamp. When we cross-checked the documents under inquiry with our own copy, we noticed the discrepancies. Now with the typed affidavits, those issues are not there,” the official said.

“We also used to get inquiries from passport offices in India regarding the handwritten affidavit sent to them from the UAE — is the name correct, legibility issues, etc”

The IVS has notified applicants of the change on its website as well as on notices in its office, located on the second floor of the Business Atrium building, opposite Al Nasr Sports Club in Oud Metha.

The new requirement does not affect the attestation charges, which vary from Dh40 to over Dh100, depending on the type of application.

However, applicants who want to have their affidavit printed and typed at the IVS office by their staff will have to pay Dh20 extra for the service.
