Dubai: Global Village has announced a full month of fun-packed events for children this month as it launches the first ever entertainment festival targeting children.

The Kids Fest, running from February 1 to 22, will have a variety of attractions on offer for kids and their parents, all free of charge and included in the price of admission, said organisers.

Among the activities happening during the festival are the acrobatic shows by Circus Circus and a meet and greet with the famous cartoon characters the Smurfs.

The main cultural stage will see the Circus Circus entertain the audience with 16 performers, including Colombian acrobats, members of the Global Village street team and resident performers.

Famous cartoon characters from the Smurfs — Papa Smurf, Smurfette and Clumsy — will be appearing at the Roman Amphitheatre to meet guests up to four times a day for 30-minute sessions with photo opportunities for all children.

To ensure as much active participation from youngsters as possible, organisers said the ‘Kids Fest’ will also see the launch of the ‘Global Show Academy’ which will comprise a 30-minute show that will run four times a day in the Roman Amphitheatre. It features five professional dancers who will run workshops for kids of all ages. They will learn a routine and even get a chance to perform it on the main cultural stage later that evening in front of thousands of guests.

Other activities lined up include face painting with 12 face painters, eight roving balloon modellers who will be creating free balloons — including animal-shaped balloons. A Globo shaped 110 foot bouncy castle has been also set up.

The popular Emirati cartoon show, Shabiat Al Cartoon will return to the main cultural stage with regular shows throughout the festival along with meet and greet spots around the park.

Families can also enjoy firework displays every Thursday and Friday, in addition to the Parade of the World every Friday, and the dancing musical fountain shows every day.

This season, Global Village attracted a huge number of visitors to its 20th anniversary edition — over 2.2 million guests have visited the region’s outdoor tourism attraction during the first two months of operation of November and December last year, organisers said.
