Dubai: All cultural and heritage sites under Dubai Culture will have free WiFi service to enhance the overall visitor experience at these sites.
The free service will enable visitors to access the internet and all their mobile needs following a recently signed agreement between Dubai Culture and du.
“This effort comes in line with the Dubai Smart City initiative launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, aiming to use the latest advanced technologies to transform Dubai into the world’s smartest city through facilitating live information and services that are easily accessible by residents and visitors,” said Mohammad Yousuf Al Hammadi, acting director of Information Technology Department of Dubai Culture.
“We are confident that this facility will contribute to enhancing the overall visitor experience at cultural and heritage sites, keeping them connected with online information sources provided by the authority’s digital platforms,” he added.
Al Hammadi said Dubai Culture also seeks to motivate visitors to participate in their cultural events and interact with their social media platforms by taking pictures and posting comments and tweets.
This agreement will see du install wireless internet connection points in culture and heritage locations across Dubai, to provide WiFi UAE services for users. In addition du will be responsible for the control, maintenance, testing and operation functions, and will provide the necessary network capacity to meet expansion requirements.
WiFi UAE expects to enable WiFi connectivity through more than 300 locations by the end of the year. Du offers users two types of internet connection; WiFi UAE is a free outdoor WiFi service, while WiFi UAE Premium is a paid service that allows users a higher speed for a very affordable price.
