Dubai: A floating house has reportedly sunk in front of Burj Al Arab, Gulf News has learnt. There were no injuries in the incident.
The floating house, which was placed in front of Burj Al Arab, sunk on Wednesday.
Lt. Col. Ahmad Atiq Burqibah, Deputy Director of the Search and Rescue Department at Dubai Police, told Gulf News that they were alerted about the sinking of a floating house at 12:31pm on Wednesday without reporting any injuries.
“We rushed to the scene and reached the area within eight minutes due to the high tide at that time. The waves were 6 to 8 feet high and the seas were rough. Nobody was injured in the incident,” Lt Col Burqibah said.
Dubai Police divers searched underwater in case there was someone occupying the house but it was found to be empty.
“Nobody was inside or around the house, but this is a routine procedure followed by Dubai Police to conduct a search even if we know nobody was there,” Lt Col Burqibah added.
He said that such floating houses have an anchor and this house was placed in the area temporarily.
The Kleindienst Group, the developer of The Heart of Europe, issued a statement to Gulf News clarifying the matter: “The Kleindienst Group confirms that the floating platform, which was used as part of the Sea Dubai event for the DJ and light show, was compromised in rough seas and sank yesterday. No one was on-board at the time and a recovery exercise is underway to retrieve the platform.”
