Dubai: The first female Emirati orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Moza Sultan Al Kaabi, died in a road accident on Dubai Bypass Road on Thursday evening.
Dr Moza, 31, was one of the top physicians at Zayed Military Hospital. She was driving back home to Fujairah from the hospital in Abu Dhabi, where she had been working for eight years, when her vehicle collided with a truck. She died at the scene of the accident.
Dr Moza’s funeral was held at the Omar Bin Abdul Aziz mosque in Fujairah after Friday prayers. She was laid to rest in Madab, Fujairah.
She became the country’s first female orthopaedic surgeon after obtaining her masters in China. She graduated with honours in General Medicine and Surgery.
Dr Moza was selected as a Goodwill Ambassador for the Organisation of the Southern Philippines Muslim and Non-Muslim Unity and Development Association, participating in a number of local and international conferences and forums. Dr Moza was also among the first women recruits of the UAE National Service. She was not married.
Her brother, Saqr Sultan Obaid Al Kaabi, said he received a call from Dubai Police informing him of Dr Moza’s death.
“At first I had my suspicions,” he told an Arabic newspaper. “I asked the caller to be serious and not to joke about such matters. I broke down in tears after I realised she was gone.”
Rashid Sultan Obaid Al Kaabi, another brother of the deceased, said his sister was known for her humility and warmth.
“She was respectful and friendly to everyone she met,” he said. “She was loved by everyone for her kindness. She would eagerly look forward to coming back home from work to see her parents and family. She was a hard worker and always ensured she met her responsibilities and duties.”
The Emirati community is mourning Dr Moza’s death, offering their condolences and praying for her soul on social media channels.
