Dubai: An Emirati woman has donated Dh21 million to support charitable, humanitarian and social projects of Dar Al Ber Society, it was announced on Wednesday.
The anonymous donor philanthropist donated Dh4.5 million for building a mosque that will accommodate 800 worshippers in the Shamkha area.
She also contributed Dh8.5 million for building an Islamic centre behind Dragon Mart in Dubai, according to a top official.
“She also paid Dh8 million for paying the debts of eligible defaulters, and supported many other charity projects run by Dar Al Ber,” said Eng. Khalfan Khalifa Al Mazroui, Chairman, Dar Al Ber Society.
Al Mazroui said inspired by Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s founding father, the people of the UAE are known for their readiness to help anyone in need of assistance.
Al Mazroui said the people of the UAE are also inspired by Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
“Dar Al Ber Society spares no effort to help all entities and individuals of the country. It also supports eligible beneficiaries and raises the fixed monthly allowances across the country as per its 36-year-old vision and strategy so that the UAE remains the top donor worldwide.”
In May, Dar Al Ber revealed that it had helped 16,186 underprivileged people in 2014, donating over Dh71 million in financial assistance through different initiatives.
The charity donated Dh18.72 million in educational assistance in 2014, benefiting around 4,380 underprivileged students and also donated Dh13.55 million to 5,295 needy people.
It also donated over Dh14.13 million to help 1,425 patients pay for their medical treatment and more than Dh7.3 million to help 1,987 people pay their pending rents.
