Abu Dhabi: From aviation maintenance to graphic design, Emirati talent was brought to the fore at the Emirates Skills National Competition where more than 100 winners were honoured on Thursday for their display of creativity in the capital.

Organised by the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education, president of the three-day annual event, Ali Al Marzouqi, said the aim was to showcase talent and inspire excellence in vocational education and training.

This year’s competition saw the participation of 528 people across 40 competitions that covered 30 skills categories, including carpentry, floristry, web design, cooking and fashion technology. While most contests were open to pupils between the ages of 16 and 21 years, a special set catered to those aged 12 to 15 years. In addition, five tournaments focused on special needs individuals.

Winners received certificates, and cash prizes ranging from Dh10,000 to Dh15,000 in the junior competitions, and from Dh15,000 to Dh50,000 for other categories.

It was held under the patronage of Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.
