Dubai: “Ae mere watan ke logon” and “Ae watan ke sajeele jawano” are songs that always evoke patriotism among Indians and Pakistanis, respectively.

To mark the 70th anniversary of both the countries’ independence, a Dubai-based Pakistani singer joined hands with an Indian composer to produce the remixed versions of both the songs.

Nazia Amin Mohammad, the social media star whose renditions of songs in Malayalam and other Indian languages have gone viral, teamed up with Indian musician Benoy Abraham to dedicate the songs to the people of both the countries.

“India and Pakistan are like siblings who live independently. But, we belong to a single global family. Borders are man-made. God created all of us in a single global family. Let’s love each other more and more. I, being a Pakistani citizen, respect you all and love you all. God bless both our nations,” Nazia wrote on her Facebook page https://m.facebook.com/NazAminMohammad when she posted the video of “Ae mere watan ke logon.”

“Originally sung by my true mentor, my most favourite musical angel, grand legend and most respected Lata Mangeshkar Didi [elder sister], it is a very [modest] musical tribute to all my beloved Indian friends. It’s a gift of love from one country to another,” she wrote, wishing her Indian friends Independence Day greetings.

Her dedication to her countrymen on their Independence Day was her cover of “Ae watan ke sajeele jawano”. “Here is a very [modest] musical tribute. A national song originally sung by our legend, respected Malika-e-Tarannum Madam Noor Jehan,” Nazia posted on Monday.

Speaking to Gulf News on Tuesday, the singer, who was born to an Indian-origin mother and a Pakistani father, said she felt the 71st Independence Days of both the countries as the perfect occasion to take her efforts to spread love and peace through music to a new level.

“I chose these two songs that salute the soldiers of both the countries and I wanted to show the people that I really love and respect both the nations and want peace and harmony between them. And what better place than Dubai to spread this message of camaraderie in this global village!”
