Dubai: All police officers who interact with the public may soon have small cameras fitted on their chest, the Dubai Police Chief revealed.

“We have been studying the possibility but we have not yet implemented it,” Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Dubai Police Chief, said.

He said the camera will record video and audio, and the officer will have no control of the footage or the camera, so he cannot alter or erase the footage.

“We respect our officers and trust them but this is for precautionary reasons and to ensure transparency. It is also a means to make sure that the officers implement what they have been taught in the field,” Maj Gen Al Mazeina said.
