Dubai: Three people have been arrested for attempting to sell 25.5kg of hashish and 1.5kg of Shabu drug in two sting operations last Wednesday, Dubai Police said.

Carrying out swift undercover operations, the Anti-Narcotic Department of Dubai Police arrested the Asian drug dealers red handed on August 23 in Dubai Marina, said Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs at Dubai Police.

A team from Dubai Police managed to nab the suspects in two sting operations arranged at one of the commercial markets in Dubai and close to a docking area for ships.

The first dealer, identified as M. R. G, 50, was arrested after negotiating the price and accepting money from an undercover officer posing as a buyer of drugs, said Major General Al Mansouri. At that moment, the suspect had ordered his accomplice to bring the drugs to be handed over to the undercover officer.

The other suspects, H. F. S, 32 and W. A. M, 39, were also caught red-handed during a raid by the police team, he said. The two Asians, working as sailors, were arrested after they brought the drugs in a plastic bag from one of the docked ships to the place that was decided on.

Major General Al Mansouri said the smugglers were very cautious with each step they took and while negotiating with the officer who was posing as a customer.

“The three suspects were arrested as they were handing over the drugs which were in their possession,” he said.

The trio were referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution, after being charged with possessing, trading and the suspected use of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
