Dubai: The Dubai Land Department will distribute Dh1 million to cash-strapped tenants who have defaulted on payments and were then found guilty during court proceedings.

The funds come from the late Obaid Al Helou family to offer support specifically for this purpose. The Land Department’s Rental Dispute Centre (RDC) has set up a committee to study the cases due to receive support from this fund.

“One of our key objectives at RDC is to secure stable relations between tenants and landlords in order to sustain Dubai’s safe real estate environment, and the donation will enable us to support insolvent tenants in a meaningful way,” said Judge Abdul Qader Mousa, Director of RDC.

Mousa said the money will be used solely for paying the dues in difficult cases, in line with the charitable and humanitarian aspect of the centre’s operations. RDC has assembled specialised committees to oversee these cases and study the situations of families to determine their conditions.

This is part of RDC initiatives launched to support the UAE’s “Year of Giving”.
