Dubai: More than 6,000 residents went around Dubai to look for gigantic light bulbs as they cracked challenges in the emirate’s first city-wide scavenger hunt to win prizes, including a volunteering opportunity abroad.

Dubai Cares on Tuesday announced the winners of the Dubai Cares Scavenger Hunt, a three-week competition for residents to answer challenges to locate 15 light bulbs spread that visualise the values instilled by Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s founding father. during the Year of Zayed 2018.

Each 1.4 metre-high light bulb is a visual masterpiece by volunteer artists from the UAE to execute their take on the 15 chosen values — tolerance, leadership, ambition, trust, resilience, peace, innovation, kindness, opportunity, happiness, gratitude, giving, courage, creativity, and commitment.

The hunt was organised by Dubai Cares in partnership with Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) under the patronage of Shaikha Latifa Bint Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors Office at Dubai Culture.

UAE resident Ahmad Safwan was the first to crack all 15 challenges and was awarded the top prize. He said: “I first heard about the Dubai Cares Scavenger Hunt was on a news article. Then I decided to embark on a challenging and day-long journey all around Dubai. I am so excited to be the first winner of the Hunt and look forward to participating in similar initiatives in the future.”

Safwan received an opportunity to volunteer abroad with Dubai Cares (Volunteer Globally), one annual day pass for Dubai Parks and Resorts and a two night-stay for two at the Versace Hotel.

Rama Al Akram came in second place and Femith Moideen ranked third. Both winners received an opportunity for five volunteers to participate in an edition of Volunteer Emirates 2018, one annual day pass for Dubai Parks and Resorts and a Dubai Mall voucher worth Dh3,000 and Dh2,000 respectively. The top three winners were also awarded a Sensasia spa voucher.

Amal Al Redha, Director of Fundraising at Dubai Cares, said the Dubai Cares Scavenger Hunt was a huge success.

More than 7,400 individuals downloaded the app, 6,100 joined the hunt and more than 325 completing at least 10 challenges, bringing the total number of challenges solved to 5,900.

“The response and engagement we have received from the UAE community was beyond our expectations. We would like to thank everyone who participated and made this initiative successful,” Al Redha said.

To reward the participants, the first 100 participants to solve 10 challenges were each given a voucher from Paris Gallery worth Dh600. Additionally, Dubai Cares randomly selected three winners among those who completed 15 challenges.

The light bulbs were also used as a means to generate support from different donors in the UAE. Each light bulb sculpture will be given to donors who acquired it for a donation of Dh50,000 to Dubai Cares namely Al Tayer Group, Dubai Airports, Dubai Investments, Dubai Mall, Paris Gallery and Scientechnic.

The sculpture can be displayed in their offices as a symbol of their contribution to this philanthropic initiative.
