Dubai: Dar Al Ber Society has revealed that it has helped 16,186 underprivileged people in 2014, donating over Dh71 million in financial assistance through different initiatives launched in that year.

As part of its continuous efforts to improve the standard of living of needy people living in the country, the charity organisation, run by Dubai Government, said it had donated Dh18.72 million in educational assistance in 2014, benefiting around 4,380 underprivileged students and had also donated Dh13.55 million to 5,295 needy people.

As part of its donations in 2014, Dar Al Ber Soiety donated over Dh14.13 million to help 1,425 patients pay for their medical treatment and more than Dh7.3 million to help 1,987 people pay their pending rents.

Around Dh1.3 million was donated to help 646 people settle their electricity bills, buy tickets to travel back home, get married and sacrifice animals.

The Dar Al Ber Society had also aided people during different occasions and seasons. Free iftar meals, worth around Dh1.5 million, were distributed at 37 different locations in Dubai, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, helping over 100,000 people.

Sacrificed meat worth Dh1.1 million was distributed to 4,992 people during Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, including clothes worth Dh190,000 to around 462 people.

Monthly food packages, worth over Dh433,700, were given to 23,320 people, apart from diverse summer assistance worth Dh379,850, stationery and school bags to 531 poor students and food to 19,284 people.

As part of its social responsibility, Dar Al Ber Society confirmed that it fully cooperates and partners with several charity organisations and entities to further help underprivileged people living in the UAE.

The society, for example, joined hands with the Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi Charity Foundation Ajman, donating over Dh4 million to repair houses of underprivileged people.

Another project called the ‘Showing Gratitude’ project, was jointly launched by Dar Al Ber Society and Beit Al Khair to support low-income Emirati families who cannot afford to pay for their accommodation in Dubai.

The society also partnered with the Dubai Health Authority to help patients who cannot afford to pay for their medical treatment. It also coordinated with other bodies, such as Federal Electricity and Water Authority, Emirates Transport, Dubai Courts, Burjeel Hospital, Ras Al Khaimah Financial Department, and Khalifa Hospital in Ajman.
