Umm Al Quwain: Police have arrested three young drivers for recklessly driving their 4X4 vehicle in Al Salma area in Umm Al Quwain while they were celebrating their friend's wedding, endangering their lives and the lives of others, police told Gulf News.

Colonel Saeed Obaid Bin Aran, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department at UAQ Police, said the young Emiratis were booked for making "doughnut" stunts.

"The youngters will be charged with endangering people’s lives, damaging public property and escaping. Their driving licences were confiscated,” the official said.

Last week, police received call at 5pm from a resident in the area saying there were youngsters performing noisy stunts near his house in Al Salma district.

“We caught the reckless drivers and referred them to authorities for legal action," the police officer told Gulf News.

He said the area near the wedding reception was full of guests at that time the stunts were pulled off — and the reckless performance posed a clear and present real danger for those who present.

“The area is not for performing vehicle stunts and there was a chance that the car might hurt people. It’s a residential district and they did not understand the risk of performing stunts in such area."

Police moved to the area and did not find the vehicles but they left marks on the road. Police, later managed to track the drivers within three hours following the incident.

"Such a behaviour is unacceptable," said the officer. "We won’t stand still and tolerate such behaviour, as it can cause the loss of lives and damage to property. We ask the public to enjoy their parties but keep away from such reckless acts.”

Thee youngsters will be charged with endangering people’s lives, damaging public property and escaping.
