Dubai: Children will present papers on various aspects of children’s rights at the first edition of Dubai Police’s ‘Voices of Childhood’ conference that will shed light on their rights.

The conference, which will run on April 29-30, will be held under the patronage of Shaikh Mansour Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

“Children aged 13-18 will present working papers about various aspects of childhood and children rights, such as creativity and innovation, social and economic children rights and national service and respect for the law,” Brigadier Dr Mohammad Al Murr, Director of the Human Rights Department at Dubai Police, said.

The conference will include children from various nationalities and from private and public schools, who will present 26 working papers. As many as 28 private and public entities will also take part in the conference.

“The recommendations from the conference will be forwarded to the authorities concerned, either for working on finding a way to execute them or to find solutions to the challenges raised. The results will be showcased in next year’s edition of the conference,” Brig Al Murr said.

He added that the Human Rights Department asked Unicef to be an observer at the conference and write a report about it to the UN.

The conference is in line with Dubai Police’s strategy of protecting rights and freedoms and they choose to prioritise children’s rights because children are the building blocks of society.

The event will be held at Jumeirah Beach Hotel.
