Sharjah: The Big Heart Foundation has received a donation of Dh500,000 that was collected by a charity concert organised by Lebanese singer Majida Al Roumi at Al Majaz Amphitheatre in January.

The donation was given to the foundation by Shaikh Sultan Bin Ahmad Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Centre, yesterday (June 9).

“The success of Al Roumi’s concert will encourage more charity events, where proceeds can be donated to societies specialising in social, health, and educational affairs,” Shaikh Sultan said.

He pointed out that the donation will support the organisation’s plans to protect children and provide them with necessary relief in the form of shelter, food, health care, psychological rehabilitation and education.

The entire proceeds from the concert will go towards supporting Syrian children in refugee camps in neighbouring countries.

Mariam Al Hammadi, Director of Salam Ya Seghar — a campaign at the Big Heart Foundation, said the community’s support gives charity organisations the capacity to expand the number of beneficiaries in countries where Syrian children need the most aid.

“The Big Heart Foundation works to alleviate the suffering of refugees and needy children, put a smile on their faces and help them overcome the challenges they face in order to resume normal lives,” said Mariam.

The Big Heart Foundation was launched in 2013 by Shaikha Jawaher Bint Mohammad Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

The foundation’s aim is to provide urgent relief and sustainable support to refugee children and children in need, including health care and emergency medical support, food and provisions, and education support.
