Dubai: About 500,000 workers in Dubai can watch New Year's Burj Khalifa light show on the screens installed in two labour camps.

Dubai Police with Emmar and the Permanent Committee of Labour Affairs installed two screens at Al Quoz and Muhaisnah 2 for workers to watch the light show in Dubai.

Brigadier Abdulla Al Gaithi, director of Protective Security and emergency department in Dubai Pollice, said Dubai want to spread the joy of New Year to all people.

“We are keen to make the workers happy by providing the screens to broadcast the show at their camps. We will bring the celebrations to them,” Brigadier Al Gaithi said.

He urged the labours to watch the celebrations, saying the screens will show latest Bollywood movies before and after the show.

Meanwhile, Major-General Obaid Muhair Bin Suroor, Deputy Director General of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) Dubai, and Chairman of the Permanent Committee of Labour Affairs in Dubai, said the initiative, sponsored by Emaar Properties, targets 500,000 workers in the Muhaisnah 2 and Al Quoz areas, and is part of the celebrations of the Year of Zayed.

“On the sidelines of this initiative, Beit Al Khair Society will take part in the distribution of meals to workers in the areas where the screens are located,” Bin Suroor said.

More than 3,000 meals will be distributed to workers.

“The initiative comes as a step to reflect the appreciation of the work that motivates them and we will continue organizing events aimed at appreciating and making workers happy.”
