Dubai: Innovative government services went on display at the fifth Dubai International Government Achievements Exhibition (DIGAE) on Sunday, demonstrating high-tech solutions to everyday needs as well as emergencies.

The three-day event, taking place at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from April 2 to 4 under the theme ‘National governments, Global achievements,’ is also featuring workshops on the future of government services.

The latest edition of the annual event was opened by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Several senior officials from Government of Dubai attended the event.

DIGAE, organised by the Dubai Government Excellence Programme, is seeing participation from 80 bodies representing 20 countries around the world and is expected to attract more than 17,000 visitors, it was announced.

The first day of the exhibition showcased all new and ongoing innovation by all Government of Dubai departments. Innovative services for residents and visitors were also on display for people to know about.

At the pavilion of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), one of the innovations unveiled by Dubai Customs was the smart drugs encyclopaedia. The Dubai Customs’ drug encyclopaedia includes details of drugs and prohibited narcotics with clear illustrations, images and videos of different types of drugs. The encyclopaedia will be used as a reference by customs inspectors.

The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) have seven innovations on display, among them an automatic airport welcome system, which is a device that welcomes passengers on arrival at the Dubai International Airport, in the language of the visitor to inspire familiarity and make the visitor feel at home.

At the Dubai Civil Defence and the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS), officials are showcasing innovations that are being used by them when responding to emergencies.

Abdullah Al Shaibani, Secretary General of the Executive Council of Dubai, said that the exhibition, held under the patronage of Shaikh Mohammad, emphasises the keenness of the UAE government to consolidate the values and concepts of excellence and innovation in the work of government.

“We hope that the DIGAE will become a bridge through which this experience will be transferred to various countries around the world and will contribute to establishing Dubai as a global hub for government excellence,” he said in a statement.

The DIGAE included a number of activities and events on the first day, including workshops attended by international speakers, who discussed various topics of government excellence. In the ‘Ask the Leader’ activity, top leaders from various government departments fielded questions from the audience.
