Dubai: Beit Al Khair aims to raise and spend Dh95 million on the needy during its 2015 Ramadan campaign.

The charity organisation launched its 2015 Ramadan campaign, ‘Among the benevolent’, during a press conference held on Monday in Dubai.

“We have increased our campaign’s target this year by Dh11 million. Last year we raised and spent Dh84 million that went on charity projects that include cash assistance for families (Dh27.5 million), sponsorship (Dh4.7 million) and providing food items (Dh7.4 million),” said Abdeen Taher Al Awadi, General Manager of Beit Al Khair.

Al Awadi said the campaign this year aims to raise the most funds to date, in order to reach the largest number of beneficiaries.

Last year a total of 179,797 cases benefited from the Dh84 million raised during Beit Al Khair’s Ramadan campaign.

Around 18,300 cases benefited from the cash assistance for family project, 17,513 cases benefited from the clothing project and 2,226 cases from the orphan sponsorship project, to name a few.

The money raised from the campaign will go towards projects that include cash assistance for needy families, providing household appliances and home maintenance to the underprivileged, sponsoring orphans, clothing projects and providing food items, among others.

He said Beit Al Khair plans on raising the Dh95 million through donations from strategic partners as well as donors from the public during Ramadan.

“We have already planned our advertising campaign to make the public aware of our Ramadan campaign. We have also increased the number of volunteers who collect donations to 120 locations and we have increased the number of donation boxes to 5,000.”

The donation boxes and volunteers will be located in shopping malls, supermarkets, government departments and hospital departments across the UAE.
