Dubai: Beit Al Khair Society’s largest Ramadan campaign kicks off on Monday with a line-up of charity projects costing an estimate of Dh90 million over a period of three-months.
Under the theme ‘Rewarding philanthropist further,’ the campaign, which coincides with the ‘Year of Zayed,’ will reach out to a more than 25,000 families in need.
“These include 3,537 families on monthly cash allowances, 15,000 students, 533 widows, 470 elderly people, people of determination and emergency cases,” said Abdeen Taher Al Awadhi, General Director of Beit Al Khair Society during a press conference on Sunday.
Taking place from March 19 to the first day of Eid Al Fitr, the campaign also aims to target families in need and other sensitive cases during public occasions and holidays through its ‘Farha’ (Joy) programme.
The programme includes the Zakat Al Fitr project, which consists of the Eidya or cash gifts given to children of listed families to buy new clothes and enjoy the celebration.
“The ‘Farah’ programme also includes the Ramadan and foodstuff scheme whereby all food needs are provided for low-income and vulnerable families,” said Al Awadhi.
According to records, Beit Al Khair spent a total of Dh83,524,709 on Ramadan projects in 2017 — which were a part of the Dh214.5 million spent by the charity on various projects during the ‘Year of Giving.’
The 2017 Ramadan projects benefited around 1,800 orphans, as well as widows, patients, elderly and people of determination.
“Beit Al Khair is all set to make this campaign the largest and most successful this year to mark the legacy of the ‘Zayed Al Khair’ or ‘Zayed of Giving’ — who founded the UAE society on the values of giving, reach out, and showing solidarity to others,” said Al Awadhi.
He pointed out that Al Maktoum Foundation and Dubai Islamic Bank, are large contributors and partners of the Beit Al Khair.
“They never thought twice and were always ready to help,” he said. The society honoured contributors and partners including Al Maktoum charity Foundation, The Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities, Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Aviation Authority, and the Faraj Fund.
Calling on charities and philanthropists across the country, Al Awadhi urged for their support during the campaign.
The society is also aiming to carry out additional projects along the year, with an aim of reaching 45,000 financially needy families in the UAE by the end of 2018.
Emiratis who are eligible for financial aid are required to present their ID, passport copy, and family book, while expats are required to present their ID, passport copy, and valid residency visa to Beit Al Khair.
Each case is studied by Beit Al Khair before being approved, with valid documents such as Emirates ID and visa being necessary for eligibility.
