Abu Dhabi

The National Rehabilitation Centre was established in 2002 in line with the vision of Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Since its establishment, the centre that is the first of its kind in the Middle East has become a beacon of hope for drug addicts.

The centre has faced many challenges because it offers a sensitive service to a society as conservative as that in the UAE.

One of its challenges was to convince the community that addicts are unwell and need treatment. Another was devising means to reach addicts and convince them to start treatment in an advanced facility.

Expertise

Since its establishment, the centre has made efforts to attract medical and administrative personnel from around the world, who have expertise in reforming drug addicts.

They exert tremendous efforts to train the centre’s other staff in the form of specialised courses.

In 2010, the centre revised its objective from providing treatment services to addicted patients to becoming a leading centre offering therapeutic and high quality awareness programmes to serve various segments of society threatened by addiction.

Its 2010 strategic plan focused on providing programmes and services that protect all segments of society.

Also, the centre worked on increasing capacity in order to meet current and future requirements, including the reintegration of addicts into mainstream society.
