Sharjah: Police will issue fines ranging between Dh200 to Dh500 to motorists and also dock them four black points if their vehicles are found parked haphazardly in front of mosques during prayer time.

Police have issued warnings against random parking around mosques and especially during Taraweeh prayers over the last ten days of Ramadan.

Inconsiderate drivers who park their vehicles whereever they please are in for a rude awakening, Sharjah Police say.

Authorities warned motorists that violators will face pentalties as part of a crackdown on parking misdemeanours.

The crackdown comes after an awareness campaign launched earlier in the emirate to educate the public about the dangers of random parking.

“Random parking is seen near mosques, which can endanger the lives of other people on the roads. Especially on Fridays and Taraweeh prayers, such parking can lead to unwanted traffic jams during prayer times,” said Colonel Arif Al Sharif, Deputy Director General of Central operations of Sharjah Police. Random parking, he said, also prevents police patrols from reaching their destinations during emergencies.

The department was forced to implement the rules after it came to attention that violators took advantage of the fact that the traffic police did not penalise drivers who parked their vehicles improperly during prayer time.
