Dubai: Al Ansari Exchange has donated Dh250,000 towards the ‘For Your Sake, Somalia’ campaign through the Red Crescent Society of the UAE, it was announced.

The UAE-based foreign exchange and international money transfer company said the move aims to provide emergency aid for the Somali people who have been badly affected by famine and comes in line with the directives of UAE President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Mohammad Ali Al Ansari, chairman and managing director, Al Ansari Exchange, said: “Somalia is in the midst of a massive drought which is the third incidence in the last 25 years, leaving more than 6.2 million people without food and water. The last famine in 2011 took a toll of 260,000 lives. We are hopeful that our contribution will support in providing clean food and water along with essential medicines to people in the drought-affected regions.”
