Dubai: While the extent of similarity between sets of twins differs, an identical twin who spoke to Gulf News said he considers himself and his twin brother “one person”.
Firas Abu Hassan, 29, from Lebanon, said his childhood with twin brother Nizar was very exciting. Winning the ‘most identical twins’ award at the Dubai Twin Festival in 2013, the twins said they shared a driving licence in Lebanon, and often switched places and replaced each other at several events in school.
“We have common friends, similar personalities, and what I can describe as telepathic connection,” said Firas.
The Dubai resident said there have been many incidents where they’ve started singing the same song at the same time, and turned up to events wearing the same colours or clothes.
“We used to take tests for each other in school, and play in the same basketball team. We generally have the same interests like fishing and still enjoy our time together — unlike other twins who feel the pressure to be alike and want to live separate lives,” he said.
While both brothers are married, one lives in Dubai and the other in Abu Dhabi. “We plan to have children at the same time,” said Firas.
Also a part of the TwinsPlus Arabia Association, the twins have participated in the group’s activities and several twin festivals.
“It’s a great way to meet other twins, share stories and experiences, and have lots of fun. We were given the title ‘the most identical twins in the region’ in the last event,” he said.
