Sharjah: Sharjah Police have put out a new traffic plan to regulate traffic as the new academic year begins on Sunday.
Major Mohammad Alai Al Naqbi, director of the traffic and patrol department at Sharjah Police, said 79 traffic patrols have been assigned to deal with traffic congestion during peak hours.
The patrols will be deployed across all roads of the emirate, with emphasis on major intersections leading to schools and universities.
Some of the patrols will be stationed near school zones.
Police will communicate with community members via social media channels to guide them to alternative routes wherever required.
Police have urged motorists to follow traffic situation via their smartphones and follow directions issued to them. They also urged parents to drop their children off to school early to avoid traffic congestion.
Major Al Naqbi urged all community members to cooperate with traffic officers and follow their directions to ensure smooth traffic flow and safety while transporting children to school and back. All motorists should pay heed to speed and avoid overtaking wrongfully, said Sharjah Police.
Sharjah Police officials will also visit schools and interact with students to tell them how to stay safe and launch awareness initiatives in schools on security.
