Global Village will run from October 21, 2012 until March 30, 2013

DUBAI The Global Village seems to be gradually enriching its flavour. From being a largely Asian and Arab-themed fair until two years ago, to re-introducing Europe last year, this year will witness increased participation from Europe.

A special European Street is being introduced along with a European gate and a host of cultural shows from the continent.

The 161 days of the region’s largest cultural, entertainment, family and shopping fair that begins on October 21 will have more than 3,000 artists from across the world participating in various cultural shows.

Visitors will also get an extra dose of Bollywood as four movie premiers are lined up for the season, including daily dance workshops from Indian choreographer Shaimak Davar’s institute.

Adding to the festive mood during Eid, the Global Village will be open for longer hours — until 2am on Eid weekends. The fun rides will operate until 3am.

“We are committed to becoming more global every year. This year we have over 65 countries in 37 pavilions.

“There will be additional fun rides, cultural shows and many new attractions like a ‘mini train’ to take visitors around.

“An extra bridge will make access easier. We are expecting over five million visitors,” said Saeed Ali Bin Redha, CEO, Global Village.

A four-minute 3D show about the Global Village and the UAE will run for the first time in Dubai — eight times a day. A play area for children and Masala! Mehndi! Masti! festival are also among the new features this season.

The management has also promised high safety for visitors with all 2,500 pavilion structures made out of fireproof material, implementation of international standards when it comes to safety on fun rides and inspectors from Dubai Municipality and its own team to ensure that visitors are safe.

Visitors, who had complained about dirty public toilets last year have been promised extra cleanliness with additional cleaners being deployed this time.

“As Global Village becomes more popular and with increasing visitors, we do recognise the importance of keeping all facilities clean for our guests. This year we have recruited additional cleaners to work at the Village to cope with the increasing number of visitors. On especially busy days such as weekends and holidays, we will also be bringing in additional cleaners to ensure that our facilities, including public areas, toilets and others, are kept as clean as possible,” Redha said.
