Abu Dhabi: A total of 45 salons and beauty centres in the capital have recently received warnings for failing to keep up with municipal standards of safety and hygiene, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality announced in a statement issued on Monday.
The violations were detected during an inspection that covered 686 outlets in the capital, including men’s salons, ladies beauty parlours, children’s salons and other outlets selling cosmetics. Inspectors confiscated 1,046 packs of expired or banned products, such as black henna and Chinese henna, which can pose a threat to residents’ health.
According to the municipality, a number of different violations were noted. Some outlets were failing to keep premises clean while others did not clean or sterilise equipment. Some centres were also found to be storing and dispensing products in an unsafe manner.
Verbals warnings have accordingly been issued to the violating outlets with poor hygiene and maintenance standards, and these will now have a grace period to take corrective action. However, expired and banned products were immediately confiscated, and outlets found to be using these will have to pay the fines decided upon by the municipal court.
The Municipality statement also added that inspectors will continue to conduct frequent checks in order to ensure the highest safety standards for residents.
