Abu Dhabi: As part of the Year of Giving, Twofour54 in partnership with the National Media Council organised workshops for selected persons on producing social media content aiming to harness people’s imaginative capabilities and help create a creative community. The participants will now submit videos of one-minute duration for the ‘Creatives4Good’ competition.

Fifteen persons, including 11 women, mostly Emiratis, were selected to take part in the three-day workshops, which concluded on Thursday. The online selection procedure was open for all but after much deliberation, 15 people were selected from across the country.

During these workshops, the selected participants, aged between 18 and 35, were split into five groups comprising three members each. They learnt from leading figures in the media industry, including Emiratis, and worked in groups to produce social media content.

The competition called on the UAE’s creative community to channel their imagination to produce positive content inspired by the ‘Year of Giving’ initiative launched by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Each group of participants will now produce one-minute videos in the coming two weeks to win Dh60,000 in prize money. During this period, they would be further briefed about producing social media content by professional Emiratis, twofour54 said.

Fahd Al Awadhi, 22, from Ajman, who took part in the workshops and who usually posts a couple of short videos every month, said, “It’s my hobby to develop short videos particularly about travelling and post them. It’s for fun.”

But he felt appalled by the spread of meaningless content on social media. Youngsters should come forward to spread right and meaningful information on social media, Al Awadhi said.

Noora Talal Al Jowdar, an Emirati woman from Abu Dhabi, said, “This space provides us plenty of knowledge on how to develop content for social media sites professionally, and also helps me keep my passion alive as I love sharing Arabic cuisine recipes on YouTube and want to continue doing that.”

She said people should post online only what benefits the society and should stay away from spreading rumours and untrue messages and videos.
