Dubai: The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) on Thursday said there was no case of meningococcal meningitis in Dubai and urged residents to rely upon official information as the spread of rumours across social media could cause unnecessary panic.

Following the death of a four-year old school girl rumoured to have died of meningitis in a Dubai school, DHA conducted its own investigation that concluded there was no case of meningococcal meningitis.

The statement reiterated: “This is incorrect information. DHA teams took swift action, we conducted our own medical examinations and we confirm that there are no cases of meningococcal meningitis in Dubai.”

It further added: “The DHA’s policy in case of managing any such incidence is of transparency. We are extremely well prepared to tackle any contagious diseases.

"We use all our resources to detect contagious diseases early on and counter them through various measures, including immunisation. However, we would like to reiterate that there are no cases of meningococcal meningitis.

"The health and welfare of our community is priority and we closely coordinate and work with Ministry of Health and relevant health institutions to tackle any such issues," it stated.
