Abu Dhabi: The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) will set up a Syrian refugee camp in Greece to provide refugees with assistance and support.

The move is in line with the UAE leadership’s keenness to bolster the role played by ERC in supporting and assisting Syrian refugees in areas where they are currently located.

Orders to set up the camp were issued by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, with the support of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and the close follow-up of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and President of ERC.

The gesture complements Shaikh Hamdan’s close attention to provide the best level of services to Syrian refugees, allowing them to overcome their plight.

Shaikh Hamdan had previously stressed the UAE’s commitment to convey a global humanitarian message towards people around the world who are affected by crises and disasters, and at the forefront of those crises is the Syrian crisis which is currently expanding resulting in repercussions that are impacting civilians.
