Sharjah: A fire broke out in a 40-storey residential tower in Al Taawun area of Sharjah, injuring seven people on Sunday morning, an official said.
Colonel Sami Khamis Al Naqbi, Director-General of Sharjah Civil Defence, told Gulf News that five of them were treated at the site, while two others were taken to a hospital.
Residents of the Tiger 3 building were evacuated soon after the fire broke out at around 7am.
Firefighters from Al Nahda, Samnan and Al Mina were immediately dispatched to the scene and contained the blaze, which started from a kitchen of an eighth floor apartment.
The fire was brought under control by the Civil Defence by around 8.30am.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Civil Defence handed the site to Sharjah Police fire experts for further investigation.
The residents of the tower will be allowed to return when police complete their investigations.
