Dubai: A 24-year-old woman from the United Kingdom (UK) was offloaded from a Dubai-bound plane due to a medical emergency.
Beth Evans was travelling with Emirates from Birmingham to Dubai last February 17 when she experienced period pains. The flyer, who works as a teaching assistant, was overheard complaining to her boyfriend that she was not feeling well.
When the airline staff learned about her discomfort, they decided minutes before take-off that it was best for the passenger not to proceed with the seven-hour flight, so she could get the necessary medical assistance on the ground.
The airline, in statement sent to Gulf News, said the safety of the flyers and crew is of paramount importance, and that it didn’t want to put Evans’ condition at risk by delaying medical help.
“We can confirm that Ms Beth was offloaded from flight EK40 on Saturday 17th February due to a medical emergency. The passenger alerted the crew onboard that she was suffering from discomfort and pain, and mentioned that she was feeling unwell,” an Emirates spokesperson said.
The airline said it was the captain who made the decision to seek medical assistance and request Evans to leave the aircraft.
“We would not have wanted to endanger Ms Evans by delaying medical help had she worsened during the seven-hour flight to Dubai. We hope Ms Evans felt better soon and look forward to welcoming her onboard again soon.”
