Man says viral video defamed his mum

Sharjah: An Emirati man has lodged a police complaint against a man he claims defamed his mother by posting a video on social media that shows her being helped across the road by a street cleaner.

Sharjah Police told Gulf News they will summon the person who recorded the viral video clip and that legal procedures would be instituted in line with the UAE’s cybercime laws.

The video, which went viral on May 9, shows a municipal cleaner in Kalba, Sharjah, taking a break from work to help an elderly woman cross the road. Social media users praised the cleaner for giving a helping hand to an elderly woman.

But the woman’s son said the video defamed the family and affected them, and that taking it was an immoral act.
