Dubai: A man will face a death squad after a court convicted him on Tuesday of luring his lover’s husband to a car, battering him with a brick, mowing him down and burning his body.
The man and his mistress, a married woman, who are both from Comoros Islands, were accused of killing the husband by battering his head with a rock, mowing him down with a car and dousing his body with petrol before burning him on October 15, 2016.
The Dubai Court of First Instance handed a death sentence to the 32-year-old man for the premeditated killing of his lover's husband, who was his best friend.
Pronouncing the primary judgement in courtroom three, presiding judge Mohammad Jamal also sentenced the 22-year-old woman to to 15 years in jail.
During the 2016 incident, a watchman saw the victim's body on fire near a warehouse in Al Ghusais and notified Dubai Police and the Civil Defence immediately.
Law enforcement officers rushed to the scene where the body of the victim, also from Comoros Islands, was found completely burnt.
Police primary investigations revealed that the victim's wife and her lover had conspired to kill him.
The defendants had pleaded not guilty and during the trial, the male accused alleged that the victim's wife was the one who incited him to kill him.
Meanwhile, presiding judge Jamal referred the two culprits to the Dubai Misdemeanours Court where they will be tried for having consensual sex.
Tuesday’s ruling remains subject to appeal.
