Manama: Two Kuwaiti military officers have been slightly wounded in an attack by protesters on a team of the Arab League observers in Syria, the Kuwaiti army said on Tuesday.
"The team of the Arab League mission in Syria was attacked by unknown protesters," a statement by the directorate of morale guidance and public relations of the general staff of the Kuwaiti army, said, Kuwait News Agency (Kuna) reported.
The two officers who were treated at a local hospital have been discharged and have resumed their duties at the headquarters of the Arab mission, the statement said.
The team that included officers from Kuwait, the UAE, Iraq, Morocco and Algeria was attacked on Monday during a mission in the northern city of Lakatia.
On Sunday, the Kuwaiti army said that it was sending officers as part of a team from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to join the Arab League observers' mission monitoring the situation in Syria.
The army attributed the move to the decisions of the ministerial council of the Arab League on the Arab Initiative and the protocol of the League observers in Syria.
The GCC agreed to send a team of officials representing all member countries to serve within the Arab League monitoring mission and within the confines and guidelines of international laws and agreements.
The GCC is made up of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
