Ramallah: Palestinian Prime Minister Dr Salam Fayyad has demanded Israel end its blockade on Gaza, halt incursions into West Bank cities and stop all colony activities in Occupied east Jerusalem.

During a meeting with Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak in a hotel in occupied Jerusalem on Monday, Dr Fayyad said the Israelis should also stop demolishing houses in Occupied east Jerusalem and reverse the decision to deport members of the Palestinian Legislative Council.

Dr Fayyad demanded that Israel stop all its incursions into the West Bank cities too.

The meeting focused on security arrangements between Israel and the Palestinian National Authority and tackled daily issues which directly affect the Palestinian people.

Dr Fayyad also demanded the release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails including those who had been serving prison terms before the Oslo Accord was signed.

Dr Fayyad also asked Barak to remove the road blocks and barriers between the cities and villages of the West Bank.

Removing restrictions

"Israel should also remove all its restrictions on the development project in the C-zone [that is totally under the Israeli occupation]," he added

Dr Fayyad said that Israel should take these issues seriously and implement them to show its seriousness in its quest for peace in the region.

He added that Israel should adopt a fundamental change in the manner in which it deals with the Palestinian issue to end the occupation.

He said that an Israeli commitment to these issues will give credibility to the peace process and will play a key role in reviving the efforts of the international community to make progress.

He called on the international community to urge Israel to meet these demands, adding that Israel should never be given the liberty to decide whether or not to implement these basic demands.
