Leidschendam, Netherlands: An international court, created to try the killers of Lebanese President Rafiq Hariri is hearing demands by a former general to see his secret file to learn why he was held without charge for nearly four years.
Former general Security Chief Major General Jamil Al Sayyed says his "arbitrary detention" was based on false testimony. He is asking the court to release his case file to find out who made the allegations against him.
Al Sayyed was released in April 2009 with three other pro-Syrian Lebanese officers suspected to be involved with the 2005 truck bomb in Beirut that killed Hariri and 22 others.
They were freed for lack of evidence and there are no other suspects in custody.
The public hearing on Tuesday is the first by the Special Tribunal for Lebanon since the release of the men.
