Baghdad: Iraqi officials say two separate bombings have killed one person and wounded eight people in the capital, Baghdad.

Police and hospital officials say one of the bombs was attached to a civilian car driven by a police officer. They say it killed a beggar and wounded four people, including the driver, when it went off on Wednesday morning.

An hour earlier, a bomb hidden under a pile of trash exploded, wounding two young girls and two street sweepers. Both blasts took place in eastern Baghdad.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media.
