Cairo: Egypt's state news agency reported that 11 people have been killed and 21 injured in a head-on collision between two vehicles south of the capital.
The accident took place on the desert highway connecting Cairo with the southern provinces.
The drivers of the car and the minibus that collided Saturday in the southern province of Minya were among the dead.
Meanwhile, a second incident claimed the lives of five people and injured one when a car overturned on the highway connecting the ancient monument cities of Luxor and Awsan, said General Mansour Al Shenawi, the Luxor police chief.
Road accidents are common in Egypt because of bad roads and poor enforcement of traffic laws. An estimated 6,000 people die annually in such accidents.
