Sana'a: A Yemeni man was sentenced to death on Monday after being convicted of taking part in seven terrorist operations in Yemen.

Chaired by Judge Muhsen Alwan, the State Security Court sentenced Al Qaida explosives expert, Saleh Al Shawash, to death.

The defendant Al Shawash, who is in his 30s, did not request an appeal, but instead, threatened the court and the judge.

"God willing, your end will be at our hands, and we have started from Abyan," said Al Shawas. He referred to the ongoing war between Al Qaida and the Yemeni forces in Abyan.

Al Shawas confessed to participating in seven Al Qaida operations against military and security targets in Hudhrmout, in which several soldiers were killed and others injured.

The Yemeni man was part of an Al Qaida group led by Hudhrmout, Hamza Al Kuaiti, who was killed with four other militants in a security operation in Tareem city on August 11, 2008.

He escaped to the Mareb province, where he hid until he was arrested on January 2010 in Hudhmout while on a suicide mission. His trial began on September 21.
