Riyadh: Yemen’s Vice President Khalid Bahah lashed out at the Al Houthi militia, saying that its intransigence is derailing peace efforts and creating obstacles to make the exit from the current situation even more difficult.
During his meeting in Riyadh today with the US ambassador to Yemen, Matthew Touler, Bahah said the legitimate government of Yemen was seeking to reach peace and evade more fighting, and welcomes any serious consultations that guarantee the implementation of international resolutions, led by the UN Security Council resolution No. 2216 in 2015.
According to a report by the Saudi Press Agency, the government-run Yemeni News Agency said the two sides discussed the mechanisms of joint work to restore security and stability in all Yemeni cities and provinces.
On Tuesday, Yemeni President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi met Tauler and discussed a number of topics and issues of interest to both countries in various fields as well as the prospects of peace and the efforts of the UN Envoy to Yemen, Esmail Ould Shaikh Ahmad.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the latest developments in the Yemeni arena, and the continuous brutal aggression by Al Houthi militia on a number of provinces, especially Taiz. He also pointed out the efforts being made by the government and the technical committee formed by the legitimate authority.
The ambassador affirmed his country’s support for the security, stability and unity of Yemen, and the legitimate authority represented by Hadi. He also commended the Yemeni government’s humanitarian and relief work, and reconstruction of number of provinces despite the current circumstances in Yemen.
