Dubai: A get-together organised by the Dubai General Department for Residency and Foreigners Affairs for detainees at Al Aweer deportation jail on the occasion of Eid Al Adha saw officials urging the public to make doubly sure that there was no irregularity connected to their residency status.

Major Khalaf Al Gaith, Assistant Director for Investigation and Illegals at the follow-up section of the department, had breakfast with inmates at the facility who were caught staying illegally in the country.

Major Al Gaith urged the public to avoid violating the residency law. "Those who employ illegals or infiltrators will face fine of Dh100,000 and will result in the closing down of the establishments and will get jail terms too," he warned.

"Employing illegals will affect the security and stability of the country," he said.

He said people who had come to the country looking for employment but had instead been cheated could call 8005111 for assistance.
