Dubai: More than six million passengers used Terminal 2 at Dubai Airport in 2012, said a Ministry of Interior senior official.

According to Major General Mohammad Ahmad Al Merri, Director General of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai(GDRFA), the percentage of visitors to the country through Dubai International Airport Building 2 rose in 2012, reaching 6,170,448 million passengers compared to 2011, when the number of passengers travelling through the same building was 5,400.164 million passengers in and out.

The figures were released during a recent tour by Al Merri of Building 2 at Dubai International Airport..

Al Merri was accompanied by Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of “flydubai”, Colonel Talal Shanqeeti Deputy, Assistant Director of the air ports and land borders in Dubai and an additional number of officers and staff.

Al Merri said passenger traffic through the e-gate portals of the building 2 rose in 2012 reaching 413,402 passengers compared to 2011 when the number ofe-gate portal users reached 222,267 passengers.

Special emphasis is placed by officers at passport control, Al Merri said, to make passenger movement smooth and as quickly as possible.

“A huge number of passengers are using the airport and the GDRFA staff and officers are doing the best to serve the airport users ,” said Al Merri.

The touring group also inspected the counters of passports control.

“The passport control officers are working as a team within an integrated system with all employees from all sectors within the airport,” said Al Merri.
