Abu Dhabi: The intersection of Salam Street and Al Falah Street in Abu Dhabi city will be partially closed from Thursday midnight (February 18), the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City announced.

The closure will affect motorists on the left lane coming from the Eastern Ring Road and turning left at the intersection or making a U-turn, said a statement issued by the Municipality.

The lanes will be open for motorists traveling towards the Naval Base and the city center. However, the road linking Al Falah Street with Tourist Club Area will be closed.

The Municipality has advised motorists coming from outside Abu Dhabi toward the city centre to use alternative routes such as Shaikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street (popularly known as Airport Road) and Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street (Mussaffah Road) in order to avoid congestion.

The intersection will be completely closed to traffic later this month in preparation for the construction of the main tunnel of Salam Street, measuring 3.1 km long that begins after the Sea Palace and runs through the city down to the Mina area, said the Municipality.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2010.

Pedestrians are urged to use proper crossing areas and bridges provided by the municipality for their own safety.

Al Salam Street Project is handled jointly the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, Urban Planning Council, Department of Transport and the General Command of Abu Dhabi Police.
