Dubai: A Dubai Traffic Police spokesman on Monday clarified that the speed limit on Emirates Road is 120 kilometres per hour. But it has a margin of 20 kilometres per hour for drivers of private vehicles.

However, the police spokesman said public transport vehicles such as buses, taxis and trucks could only exceed the speed limit by 10 kilometres per hour. There had been rumours among members of the public that the margin over the speed limit on Emirates Road has been reduced to 10 kilometres per hour for all vehicles.

The police spokesman said the rule, which took effect on November 1, 2009, was currently in force. The rule had helped curb the number of accidents on the highway and also ensured that traffic flow was smooth, she said.
