Dubai: An evacuation drill in Barsha and a truck accident on Dubai Bypass Road caused a traffic jam on Emirate Road and Bypass Road on Tuesday.

The Dubai Police, in cooperation with Civil Defence, organised a drill on Tuesday morning in South Barsha on dealing with a gas leakage from a lorry following a traffic accident.

The drill aimed to measure readiness and response by specialised teams, and the speed of rescue teams when arriving at the accident site.

During the drill, roads were closed and traffic was diverted elsewhere, which caused traffic jams on alternative roads.

Major General Jassim Mohammad Balrumaitha, Director of the General Operations Department, said the measurement of the responding teams' speed was necessary.

Gas tanker overturns

At 9:52 am, prior to the drill, a gas tanker overturned on Dubai Bypass Road and all necessary security measures were taken to deal with it in line with safety standards.

The accident site was cordoned off. The gas was transferred to another tank before the tanker was removed. There were no reported injuries.
