Abu Dhabi: The Department of Traffic and Patrols at Abu Dhabi Police seized about 12,605 vehicles for using bad tyres over the last five months.
Colonel Khamis Eshaq Mohammad, deputy director of the department, said bursting tyres can cause serious accidents, which can lead to death and critical injuries, especially on highways.
"The tyre burst accidents which occurred last year across Abu Dhabi were 76 accidents, leading to 20 deaths and 15 critical injuries, compared to six deaths this year from January 1 to May 31, while two persons were injured, two of them were serious," he added.
Colonel Khamis called on motorists not to use bad tyres and to make sure the tyres are compatible with specifications.
