Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi traffic police have issued 750 tickets for tailgating violations.
Tailgating has caused a high rate of fatal accidents on UAE roads, police said.
The move is part of a police campaign to focus on increasing motorists’ safety by ensuring that there is sufficient distance between vehicles.
Sixteen traffic police cars are monitoring Abu Dhabi streets as part of the traffic campaign, which was launched on January 24.
“Most of the violations were made by young people mainly on Khaleej Al Arabi and Mahawi streets,” said Lieutenant Colonel Hamad Al Ameri, Head of Traffic Department.
Abu Dhabi traffic Authority will continue to intensify monitoring of roads in Abu Dhabi.
Lieutenant Colonel Al Ameri called on drivers to cooperate with police efforts and respect safety regulations.
“The campaign’s purpose is to ensure the public’s welfare and not just to detect violators and fine them,” Al Ameri added.
